Junior Secondary School Interns to be Confirmed After Two Years

Nancy Macharia

Early this year, the Teachers Service Commission hired 26,000 teachers to serve as interns for JSS. Another 20,000 intern teachers were added in September.

There were rumours and hopes that the senior JSS interns would be confirmed in December as their first year internship contract comes to an end.

However, a report given by the Teachers Commission to a parliamentary committee on education suggests that all intern teachers will be confirmed in 2025.

According to the report, the TSC currently does not have supplementary money on its budget to fund the confirmation of interns to PnP.

In this regard, JSS teachers who were employed this year as interns will have to renew their contracts as interns again for another year as they wait for the government to allocate more funds to the commission.
