Health CS Dr. Susan Nakhumicha has announced that NHIF rates will reduce to 300 from September this year.
NHIF deductions for non-salaried individuals currently stand at KSH 500, but with the aim to make health more accessible to all, Health CS has suggested that the rates will drop by KES 200 starting next month.
Speaking in Bungoma on Sunday, Nakhumicha stated that the health sector has been allocated more funds this financial year to institute crucial health reforms including revamping of maternal services and medical logistics throughout the country.
“President William Ruto’s government is doing a lot in the area of health. Two months from now, NHIF rates will be revised from Ksh. 500 to Ksh. 300. This financial year Ksh 4.1 billion has also been allocated to support the Linda Mama program,” said Nakhumicha
The Kenya Kwanza government is also doing enough to reform the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) according to the Cabinet Secretary for Health.
NHIF is also another area that the ministry is looking into alongside strengthening healthcare promoters. These initiatives are currently underway to improve the quality of care and increase accessibility to healthcare services in the country.
Like the normal trend among all Kenya Kwanza leaders, Nakhumicha was quick to blame the past regime for corruption and mismanagement of funds in her ministry.
“When I joined the Ministry of Health, I found a huge mess. I immediately moved in to clean the rot at KEMSA and things are back in good order there. I am also streamlining NHIF and soon the Fund will have a new CEO,” Health CS, Susan Nakhumicha
She has promised to bring back order in the Health Ministry and suggested that Kenyans should see the results of those efforts very soon.
