Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s Church Deregistered

Pastor Ezekiel Odero

The Registrar of Societies has communicated the cancellation of Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s church, the Newlife Prayer Center. The controversial pastor is an aide to Pastor Paul Mackenzie the leader of the Malindi Cult who orchestrated the Shakahola Massacre.

Other churches that have been deregistered alongside the Newlife Prayer Center include the Christ Church, Theophilus Church, Kings Outreach Church, and Goodnews International Ministries.

Through a publicly released notice, the Registrar of Societies said that he was exercising her powers conferred by the Societies Act cap 108, section 12(1). The churches’ licenses were cancelled with effect from 19th May, 2023. The letter was dated August 3, 2023, and released to the public on August 18, 2023.

In May this year, Pastor Ezekiel had moved to court to stop the registrar from canceling the registration of his church.

Through his lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, Odero told the court that the Registrar of Societies had threatened to cancel the registration of his church. He argued that such cancellation would curtail his freedom of worship and the freedom of his followers to worship.
