Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha announced a new academic calendar ahead of planned school reopening in January.

Speaking at the KICD headquarters in Ngara, Magoha reiterated the government’s plan to reopen schools on 4th January, 2021. Students will then learn for the second term of 2020 Calendar year until the 19th of March, 2021. CS Magoha said that the government has learned from the two three classes that have returned back to school so far. Drawing from the experiences of this partial school reopening, Magoha assures parents that their kids will be safe at school. “I want to assure the country that the government is determined to ensure a safe reopening and learning in schools,” Magoha said.

Speaking in the same function, TSC boss Nancy Macharia requested all teachers aged above 58 years to work from home due to the surging cases of Covid-19 in the country.

The new direction taken by the Ministry of Education comes a few days after Uhuru Kenyatta directed the ministry to come up with a new plan for the resumption of studies.

From Education Central EA, we wish all teachers the best in the new environment. Keep Safe!
