Schools Closed in Kenya Over Corona Virus

Uhuru Announces Closure of Schools

Following the incidence of Corona Virus last Thursday, further tests have shown two additional corona virus cases in Kenya. In effect, President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed school administrators to suspend learning with immediate effect.

Speaking at the Harambee House, the Head of the State directed day schools to stop learning beginning Monday 16th 2020 due to the corona virus. Boarding schools are expected to close from Wednesday 18th 2020.

What Next for Learners?

Whether the schools will reopen again for the remainder of the term remains to be seen. However, given that schools were expected to close for holidays beginning April 10th, it is highly unlikely that learning will take place this term.

This shows the beginning of what we reported here is a ripple effect of the corona virus in the Kenyan education system. The closure of schools is also according to our position here at KCSE PDF as we believe that there is no activity or goal that supersedes the health of people.

What Next for Parents?

Parents should now be careful. This is a test for those parents who are not used to having their kids around for long. Some parents do not have house helps, and their kids are now coming home. Others will have to stop businesses to tend to their kids beginning Monday. Furthermore, other parents will leave their children in the risky hands of strangers.

It is important for parents to take precautions with their kids. As we have said before, precaution is better than risk. Have a good time with your children. Let them know that you are always there for them.

Most of the kids are wondering what is going on. They are innocent and ignorant of the consequences that this disease has brought upon their lives. Thus, you as a parent have the responsibility to show them the right way. Give them hope, and tell them the honest truth as to their growth and development.

Stay safe, be happy!
