Teachers’ Salary Increment and Promotions from July

TSC to increase teachers salary

The TSC is currently in the process of recounting institutional administrators ahead of the next phase of the implementation of the 2017 CBA.

TSC boss Nancy Macharia has sent a circular to the county directors of education requiring them to provide more accurate data of head teachers and their deputies ahead of the enforcement of the KES 11 billion 2017-2021 CBA. The administrators have been asked to comply with the directive by June 30.

This comes after the TSC realized that its database contains inaccurate and misleading information, which undermines the resource management activities of the teachers’ employer. Apparently, the county commissioners had provided inaccurate data by recording some deputies and senior teachers as head teachers. Whether this was done maliciously or erroneously, TSC’s operations could be hindered by the anomaly.

However, if the county commissioners comply and validate their data by the said date, approximately 100,000 head teachers, their deputies, and senior teachers will be dancing their way to the bank soon.

In the July structural changes, approximately 100,000 teachers will also be promoted from Grade B5 to Grade C1. That will mean that instead of earning KES 27,195, they will now start earning KES 33,994 on the uptrend of the continuum.

After this year’s budget, a total of KES 266 billion has been placed at the disposal of the Commission. Much of it will be utilized for the payment of salaries from the top to the bottom of the hierarchy in the teaching profession.

Enjoy your perks, fellows…
