Ida Odinga was joined by several leaders on Monday in the groundbreaking ceremony for Ida Odinga Library, Research and Innovation Center.
An idea that was conceived in 2019 has finally been launched at Ogande Girls, Homabay County. Dr. Ida Odinga began a journey to develop a state-of-the-art research and innovation center last year when she visited Ogande Girls High School to deliver success cards.
The former Prime Minister’s wife says that she was challenged by her daughters and sons to give back to the school where she attended as a teenage girl. On her official website, she says, “I was challenged to come up with a project that would secure my legacy as a dedicated alumnus of Ogande Girls…and as a lifetime teacher, career and life coach.”
On her twitter account, Ida Odinga stated that schools should not only teach academic content, but also provide the skills needed by learners in a rapidly changing modern world.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at Ogande Girls, and it brought together leaders from diverse background. Some of the prominent leaders who accompanied Ida Odinga include Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiangi and Education CS Prof. George Magoha. Other leaders present included Gladys Wanga, Moses Kachiang, Cyprian Owiti, and Peter Kaluma.
Dr. Fred Matiangi said that the ultramodern facility once complete aims to empower the youth via academic research and innovation. Matiangi also said that the government will work through chiefs and sub-chiefs to ensure that all students return to school in January 4.
The construction of Ida Odinga Research and Innovation Center will be funded through contributions from the Odinga family led by her husband and ODM leader Raila Odinga, her friends and alumnae of Ogande Girls, and Kenya High School where she taught. Until completion, this facility is expected to cost over KES 300 million. Have a look at some of the designs and plans for the facility below.
