Once a person wins the competitive TSC recruitment process, he or she signs a contract that contains various terms of service. One of the aspects of this commitment is the probation period, a duration in which a teacher works without permanent and pensionable scheme. During probation, a teacher does not receive benefits accorded to other TSC teachers who have been employed under permanent and pensionable terms.
TSC probation period lasts for at least 6 months, after which a teacher is confirmed as a permanent teacher. The TSC confirmation letter is sent to the individual upon the expiry of the probation period as long the Commission is satisfied that the teacher is fit for the job.
Teachers are required to request for confirmation after the probation period through the head teacher or principal of the school where they are stationed.
In the end of a probation period, a teacher may not be confirmed if they fail to meet TSC’s requirements such as professionalism, discipline, and competence. For instance, a teacher may not be confirmed if they have been absent from work for a long time within their probation period without a proper reason or permission from the school’s head teacher.
